As the fifth generation of wireless technology, 5G offers lightning-fast downloads, minimal latency, extensive connectivity, and unparalleled reliability. With Rangitahi being the future leaders of the Maori community, they need to show the potential of creative technology.

Whekori, a sub-brand of Spark, was developed to connect with rangatahi by tapping into their natural sense of rebellion and need for self-expression. Rooted in graffiti culture, Whekori creates a space where young people can feel seen, heard, and empowered, using creativity.

To maintain engagement in the lead-up to the event, a series of countdown posts was rolled out across social platforms, building momentum.

At the centre of the experience is a custom-built spray can powered by 5G. It features a rotary encoder for colour selection, infrared sensors for proximity-triggered spray, and pressure sensors to control paint flow, simulating the feel of real graffiti with no mess. Hosted at Silo Park, this digital graffiti wall transformed a public space into a tech-enabled canvas for young creatives, blending storytelling, interactivity, and cultural pride.

I UV-unwrapped and applied custom label designs that incorporate safety warnings, bold color palettes, and urban-inspired textures to enhance authenticity and storytelling. To elevate the final look, I employed a three-point lighting setup complemented by stylized colored backlights, creating a dynamic, high-contrast render that feels both realistic and visually striking.

This motion piece is a tutorial for Whekori’s innovative graffiti can and a teaser designed to build anticipation for the upcoming event, offering viewers an interactive, mess-free graffiti experience.

Graffiti line animations were used as dynamic transitions to emulate the can's motion, reinforcing street art's rebellious, expressive nature. These lines interact with common hovering objects around Auckland, suggesting that the city is about to become the canvas.
